The National Monuments Service's description
This brushwood and roundwood togher was visible, on the field surface and in the drain faces, at thirty-seven sightings across the western side of Castlegar Bog over a length of 615m. The togher was orientated east/west from the higher ground to the west towards the dryland island at Dalysgrove. It was composed of transversely laid brushwood and roundwood elements supported by brushwood and roundwood longitudinals interspersed with and overlying light brushwood and twigs (Wth 1.10-3m; D 0.01-0.57m). Transversely laid planks were recorded at one location. At many of the sightings the upper walking surface had been milled away so that all that remained were the damaged elements that form the base of the togher. The transversely laid upper elements were densely laid and, therefore, would have provided a stable walking surface when the togher was in use. Elements from this togher were dated from between 1410-1440 AD placing it in the Late Medieval Period.
