The National Monuments Service's description

At S end of a low ridge. Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1915) as a circular enclosure (D c. 30m int.), apparently bivallate and overlain by a field wall at NW. Traces of a possible outer bank were evident from W to NW and at NE, where traces of the fosse were visible. However, the rest of the monument had been cleared and quarried out and no visible surface trace survived According to the landowner, the fosse was '6' [c. 1.8m] wide and 10' [c. 3m] deep'. The location and cartographic evidence suggest that this most likely was a rath.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
