The National Monuments Service's description
In an area of sand-dunes close to the sea at S limits of a golf course. A band of midden material exposed in a scarp face (L 32m, T 0.25-0.35m), and up to 1m below present ground surface. Composed mainly of shells, including whelk, periwinkle and oyster, with quantities of burnt stone and animal bone also in evidence. A fragment of a hone has been recovered. Human remains were reportedly discovered in this area in 1989. This may be a continuation of a similar midden c. 175m to SE (GA048-004----).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
