The National Monuments Service's description
In grassland. A slightly raised unenclosed rectangular platform (E-W 10m, N-S 7m) within which several small set limestone grave-markers are haphazardly arranged. In E sector, the N face of one grave-marker is inscribed with a simple cross, over which are the letters TOB, an apparent reference to a member of the O'Brien family who once lived in the neighbourhood (Claffey 1983, 149). According to local information, itinerant burials took place here at night; one such family is said to have returned from Sligo to bury a child (ibid.).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
