The National Monuments Service's description
On a slight rise in gently undulating grassland, surrounded by a field system (GA031-035001-). In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Melaghlin Mc an Abbe' (Nolan 1901b, 122). All that survives is a rectangular depression (L 11.7m, Wth 7.5m) surrounded by grassed-over banks of collapsed rubble. An internal division is visible within the depression. (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 230)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
