The National Monuments Service's description
In SE quadrant of a probable early ecclesiastical enclosure (GA029-104001-). Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1927) as an irregular area (c. 35m by c. 20m) defined along W and N sides by a broken line. What is visible is a slightly raised area, roughly subtriangular in plan, bounded by a line of boulders on W and N sides and by the fosse of the enclosure from E to S. Though SW part is obscured by trees, a number of grave-markers are visible. These consist of small undressed moss-covered boulders aligned E-W. In N part stands a wrought iron cross (H 1m), with decorative hearts at the centre and on the terminals. According to local information, the last burial here took place 15 to 20 years ago.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999).
