The National Monuments Service's description
Within an early ecclesiastical enclosure (GA029-068001-); its position is marked on OS 6-inch maps on S side of Bishop St. Archdall (1786, 197-8) records that the 'remains [of St Jarlath] were preserved at Tuam, in a Chapel called Temple-nafcrin [sic]'. Kelly (1904, 257-8) relates that 'the silver shrine of St. Jarlath' was found in 'the Shrine Church [then] unroofed and in ruin', in 1650, but was lost again in the 19th C (see also Kelly 1901a, 100-2). The site probably continued in use until late medieval times, possibly as a parish church (O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 31, also 38, 43, 50), though the 'Abbey of the Scrin' is mentioned in a list of monasteries in 1574 (Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 369). No visible surface trace survives. (Crawford 1923, 83; Ó Murchú 1970, 11)
