The National Monuments Service's description
On the S shore of Kylemore Lough. Indicated in name only, ‘Carn’, on the S verge of an old roadway, running along the S shore of the lake, on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map and its 1896 re-survey. The area to the S is named ‘Laghta’ on the mapping. Described by Kinahan (1872, 13) as the 'ruin of [a] ... Fosleac', though Killanin (1954, 100) thought 'it may be natural'. On inspection in November 1983, no visible surface trace of it was noted. It was recently identified by Mr. M. Gibbons (pers. comm. 2022). It consists of a small roughly rectangular, but partially collapsed, cairn (2m E-W; 1.5m N-S) that is now almost completely submerged by the rising waters of the lake. (Gosling 1993, 140)
