The National Monuments Service's description
In sand dunes on the N shoreline of Aughrus Beg townland. This midden (L c. 17m) is visible in the dune face as a dark horizon interspersed with limpet and periwinkle shells, and a band of granite boulders. The E and W limits are obscured by collapse and scraw and it is likely that the midden extends further in both directions. A pit is visible c. 4.5m to the W of its E limits. It is 0.6m below the sod layer and it varies in width from 1.4m at the top to 0.2m at the base; it is 0.5m in depth. There is a drop of 0.6m from the base of it to the bottom of the dune. Periwinkle and limpet shells are also visible within it and it appears to be sealed with a line of granite boulders.
The midden was brought to the attention of the Archaeological Survey of Ireland by M. Gibbons, Archaeologist, Clifden.
