Moated site

The National Monuments Service's description

On S bank of a stream in a shallow alluvial valley. Well-preserved conjoined moated site consisting of: (a) a rectangular enclosure (NNW-SSE 50m, NNE-SSW 22.5m) defined by two banks/scarps and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is visible only on NW side elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. The fosse and outer bank are clearly visible but material dredged from the stream has been piled up on the outer bank along NE side. Traces of a dried-up stream bed are visible to E, suggesting that the stream may formerly have been diverted into the fosse. However, a possible leat is also visible at N corner. (b) Adjoining this monument at WSW is a roughly D-shaped enclosure (N-S 41.5m, E-W 34m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The outer bank survives only from NW to NE. At NE, a leat defined by two earthen banks runs NW to the stream. The interior contains a C-shaped grassed-over structure of earth and stone (L 5m, Wth 3m); possibly the remains of a house. A field boundary cuts the monument at NE and SE. (Neary 1914, 122, no. 128)
