The National Monuments Service's description
Within an enclosure (GA006-047----). In existence in 1574 when 'Cloghtrintynode' castle was in the possession of 'Mac Keggen' (Nolan 1901b, 117). All that survives is a poorly preserved rectangular enclosure (L 10m, Wth 9m) defined by a low bank overlain along N side by a field wall. A possible causeway runs off to S. (Knight c. 1975, 12)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
