The National Monuments Service's description
This megalithic tomb is located in pasture on a low SW-facing slope above the Glencullen River. The site comprises a flat-topped, furze-covered cairn (diam.32m; H 1.5-2m) with a possible chamber SW of centre, which is indicated by a standing stone (DU028-042002-). The cairn is partly truncated by a boundary wall. There is a large depression in the S half of the cairn. In the centre of the cairn there is a gallery aligned NW-SE (Wth 1.7-3.5m, L 1.9m). It is formed by five stones. In the 1970s there were three large granite slabs visible (Healy 1975, 1-19). A sketch map accompanying the OS Letters in 1837 show the site as a 'Giant's Grave' and an accompanying note mentions that 'There was a cromleac here but is now destroyed' (Herity 2001, 16). It is listed by Powell (1941, 21-23) as a gallery grave.
This monument is subject to a preservation order made under the National Monuments Acts 1930 to 2014 (PO no. 157/1940).
