The National Monuments Service's description
This is the present location of the stone from Keel West, Achill Island, Co. Mayo (MA053-003009-). This stone was found in 1958 on the surface of a field some 300m W of the coastguard station at Keem (NMI Finds Register: 1958/126). It is described as a 'Rectangular slab of stone brought to a point at one end. The surfaces are all considerably weatherworn so that the inscription cannot be read with confidence. It appears to have been pecked on one of the broad faces of the stone rather than along an angle. Length 80.5cm; greatest width 36cm; maximum thickness 9cm.' (Lucas 1960a, 33).
