Ogham stone (present location)

The National Monuments Service's description

This is the present location for the ogham fragment (CO066-053----) found on the crown of a hill with good views in all directions, inside Rathcanning fort (COO66-01001-) in Glenaphuca townland. A lump of stone (9in; 4in x 4in), read by Macalister (1945, 82, no. 80) as bearing the end of an M and other marks 'not so certainly intended as letters'. This fragment was rescued by him 'from the wall of the ....fort'. A second ogham stone (CO066-009----) was implied by Macalister (1945, 82, no. 79) to have come from the souterrain (CO066-01002-) in this fort. However, the earliest account of this stone states that it came from another souterrain S of Rathcanning, closer to where it was found re-used in a farmyard. (Power et al. 1994, no. 4236)
