The present graveyard in Donnybrook Village is reputedly on the site of an an early convent site associated with St. Broc and later attached to the church of Taney (Ball 1903, 57). The previous existence of an early ecclesiastical enclosure (max. est. diam. 120m) at Donnybroook is suggested by the curvature of the SE section of graveyard wall and the kink in the road to the N of the village. There is also a granite cross-base of probable Early Christian date standing by a wall fragment in the middle of the graveyard. This graveyard was the burying place of the Fitzwilliams in the 16th-century (op cit 58). The earliest tombstone in the graveyard today commemorates Thomas Jordan and Catherine Hanon 1629 (Parkinson 1993).
