The precise location of the 17th century graveslab/tombstone of Ignatius Purcell and his family in Crumlin graveyard (DU018-038002-) has not been identified (Ball 1906, 145). Inscription recorded by C. Hunt and Celia Ewald as follows; '"IGN PURCELL ESQa HIS BURIALL PLACE. HIS FIRST WIFE MARGARET PURCELL ALIAS SWEETMAN DIED THE 13TH OF JUNE 1682. HIS SECOND WIFE . . . . . . PURCELL ALIAS PLUNKET DIED THE 6TH OF JANY 1691. NOT LOST BUT GONE BEFORE IGNATIUS PURCELL, ESQ" OBT 3RD March 1794. DIED 31ST OF DECR 1851 HENRIETTA FRANCES O'NEILL DAUGHTER OF THE LATE MAJOR BRISTOW AND WIFE OF
IGNATIUS FRANCIS PURCELL ESQa. ALSO IGNATIUS FRANCIS PURCELL OF CROMLYN HOUSE Co DUBLIN ESQa 14TH AUGT 1836 TRUSTING IN THE MERITS OF CHRIST. Here also are deposited the remains of …………….Purcell Wife of Jno F. Purcell Esqr who departed this life on the 9th day of Octobr 1823 in her 22nd year." 'This tomb is right up against the E. wall of the church. It is A slab of limestone, supported on four square legs of granite.'
