The National Monuments Service's description
Excavations in 1993 uncovered the remains of four phases of earthen bank construction dated to the 10th century (Walsh 2001, 96-107, Clarke 2002, 20). The earliest bank survived as a low mound (H 0.45m, Wth 2.50m) with areas of metalling on top indicative of a pathway. A further bank was constructed on top of the bank and this was associated with a series of gullies and fences. A further fence was erected on the N side of the bank and clay brought in to widen it for a further 2.50m to the S. This was further extended and raised in the late 10th century.
