The National Monuments Service's description
Archaeological excavations in 1990 revealed a section of post and wattle along the E bank of the Poddle river (L11.10m, H0.60m). This was built free-standing on the surface of the river silt in the Thirteenth century. It was subsequently replaced by a stone wall (Walsh 1997, 43-44).
