The National Monuments Service's description
Excavations in 1994 of the basement of 35 Parliament Street revealed a clay surfaceassociated with 12th century pottery and roof tiles. The clay surface was interpreted as the remains of an earthen bank dug from the side and bed of the River Poddle to protect the Hibern-Norse settlement (Scally 1995, 29-30)
