The National Monuments Service's description
Excavations in 1995 exposed a water channel (Wth 7m; D 1.5m) containing 13th-14th century pottery. The site at 30-32 South Earl Street lay within the Medieval Liberty of St Thomas and the medieval Abbey of St Thomas. It may be associated with a mill called the 'Watte mill' mentioned in 1272 (Hayden 1996, 18).
