The National Monuments Service's description
According to De Courcy (1996, 283-286) development of the quay began c. 1675 and was substantially formed by 1685. This involved land fill and straightening of the river bank. It was called Ormonde Quay in honour of the Duke of Ormonde in recognition of his support for the development project.
