The National Monuments Service's description
The building known as Crane House was situated on Merchant's Quay, just W of O'Donovan Rossa bridge (FMD map (1978) L3). This building served as a custom house in medieval Dublin. In 1597 a quantity of gun powder landed at the crane and exploded accidently causing considerable destruction (Gilbert 1854-9, I, 358-68). There are no visible surface remains.
