The National Monuments Service's description

Known as 'Pole Gate Bridge' this lay immediately outside the Pole Gate spanning the Poddle River. It is mentioned in a document in 1574 (Gilbert 1854-9, 3, 358, Bradley & King 1987, 1, 38; FMD map (1978) C4).
