Hut site

Situated atop a low rise of ground with good extensive views in all directions. Present remains consist of a conjoined hut site with the partial remains of the stone corbelled roof intact in one of the rooms of the hut site. The site consists of a roughly square-shaped hut site (int. dims. 6.8m E-W x 4.3m N-S) with sunken interior enclosed by a sod covered drystone wall (H 1.2m; Wth 0.8m) with two upright orthostats (H .8m) at NE with a possible entrance gap (Wth 0.8m) between the orthostats at NE. A second conjoined roughly circular shaped hut site (int. diam. 3.4m) is located on the E side and this hut site appears to preserve some of the original stones of the corbelled roof of the hut. This part of the hut site is covered in briars and thorn bushes making detailed examination of this hut difficult. This adjoining hut site appears to have the remains of a corbelled roof the lintels of which are partially in situ, others lying fallen inside the hut site. The side wall of this hut site appears to have been quarried out of the bedorck which froms part of the enclosing wall of the hut and a possible partition wall within this hut site. On the western side of this monument are the remains of a sunken avenue or roadway (Wth 7m; D 0.5m) which leads down to a large rectangular field and cliff edge overlooking the sea. It is not clear if this roadway or sunken avenue is contemporaneous with the hut site or whether it is a later feature.
