Cist

At the W edge of a low E-W ridge with views to the N, E and S. It was discovered in 1984 when the capstone was dislodged during ploughing. It was investigated in the same year by O’Connor on behalf of the National Museum of Ireland. Slightly wedge-shaped short cist (dims. 0.84m ENE-WSW; 0.38m NNW-SSE; D 0.4m) originally defined principally by six slabs set on edge, one at each of the long sides and two each placed on top of each other on the short sides. The S side slabs appears to have extended beyond the W side. The floor was paved with a single slab. The capstone (dims. 1.32m x 0.78m; T 0.27m), was not in its original position. The Gardaí had removed earth from the interior of the cist. Despite this a number of bones from an inhumation were recovered. No artifacts were identified. A second cist (DG079-043002-) was discovered c.3m SW (Cahill and Sikora 2011, Vol. 1, 153-158).
