White Castle (site of): Occupied in 1601 by Brian age McLaughlin, in 1654-6 it belonged to Major George Carey, tenant to Lord Chichester, who had been granted the whole of Inishowen at the time of the Plantation (Simmington 1937, 2; Davies and Swan 1939, 208). It was probably sited on or near the present Whitecastle, a late 18th century house (Rowan 1979, 477). The site is marked on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map. Apart from some possible fragments, in the yard, there is no visible trace of this castle.
