The National Monuments Service's description
Internal diam. 30m. Previously unmarked on the OS 6-inch maps, but recorded as 'Dooey's Castle or Cashel-na-Veean' (M. R. Colhoun). The site consists of a roughly circular space enclosed by a ruined stone wall. Part of the original facings are visible from WNW through the E half to the S. At the N it is 1.25m high. 'There is an entrance at the ENE which opens onto a natural ramp 4m wide between two faces of rock. A line of boulders narrows this ramp at one point to 1m. On the W side' there is no wall but a sheer, and in places overhanging, cliff defines the edge. The E section of the interior is 2m to 3m lower than the rest of the site. A drystone wall runs along the top of the rock to the W of this drop. The site is located on a rocky platform in mountainous terrain with very little pasture.
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.
