The National Monuments Service's description

In 1987 landowner informed ASI archaeologist that corner of uncultivated field was locally known as the site of a 'rath' and was uncultivated as a result of this belief (SMR File 03/09/1987). Described in 1987 as following: 'On gentle SSE facing slope with excellent views in all directions except to NW, N and NE where the rising hillslope restricts the view. There is no trace of a ringfort here. A large area (c. 36m NE-SW, c. 26m NW-SE) of rough uncultivated ground, irregular in outline, the remainder of the field having been ploughed recently' (SMR File). Listed in the Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow as entry number 173.
Today the field has been cleared of scrub vegetation and there are no surface remains visible of any earthwork or fosse which could be identified as the enclosing element of a possible ringfort. No monument is indicated at this location on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. Could be site of levelled archaeological monument based on local information but without further evidence the presence of a monument at this location remains uncertain. Area of uncultivated land visible on Bing Maps aerial photograph taken November 2011 (see attached CW022-051----_04.jpg). Well preserved but overgrown ringfort (CW022-022----) located 140m to SW.
