The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

In the SW sector of a graveyard (CW015-021002-). Parish church of Wells referred to in 1262 (Calendar of Ormond Deeds, Vol 1, 30). Present remains consist of divided nave (min L 23m x 7.4m) and chancel (11.4m x 5.6m) with remains of E and most of S wall and reconstructed N wall of nave. Built with limestone rubble and granite ashlar. Nave: two tall narrow round-headed lights in S wall. Present entrance in W end of S wall. Dividing wall between nave and chancel surmounted by single bellcote with two-stone round ashlar head. Outline of original chancel arch visible on N face of dividing wall. E gable wall has small two-light window. Chancel: large window with dressed stone in N wall, with doorway in W end of S wall opposite. Double piscina with canopy in E end of S wall.
