The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

OS field books mention: 'On the 5th March 1839 a pit was dug for gravel near the bridge and 7 skulls and a great number of human bones were found about 2 feet down'. Bridge referred to is Aghmorough known locally as Bloody Bridge after a legendary battle.
