The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of revision: 16/12/2009
According to McDonald (Carloviana 1981, 13) said to have been founded by Croine Beg about AD 550. Circular area (diam. 42m) defined by very low bank (H 0.1-0.2m; Wth c. 1m) appears to be the graveyard (CW009-034002-) which is depicted on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map as a triangular area and on the later ed. as a roughly circular area. No visible trace of church. See also mound (CW009-043001-).
