The National Monuments Service's description

Discovered at Castle Lane during archaeological monitoring of groundwork’s associated with a water mains replacement scheme (Excavation Licence No. 06E0143). An area of burning was initially exposed. Excavation revealed the remains of an earth-cut limekiln with a stone-lined flue. Sherds of medieval pottery and animal-bone fragments were recovered from the fill. Approximately one quarter of the kiln was excavated. (Quinn 2009, 212)
