The National Monuments Service's description
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007
Replaced motte (CW008-045002-) probably in thirteenth century. Dineley's sketch of c. 1680 shows castle with entrance between two rounded towers, possibly gatehouse similar to Ballyloughan (CW019-018----), with rectangular court and gabled house attached. No visible trace. (Bradley 1989, 68-9)
