The National Monuments Service's description
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
'Kinneigh Church'. Present remains consist of grass-covered foundations (max. H 1.5m) of nave and chancel structure, aligned E-W, (nave, 12.8m x 7.3m; chancel, 7.3m x 4.6m). Small, narrow socketed cross base N of W gable (CW003-005004-). Graveslab (CW003-005003-) with two Maltese crosses in relief lies in the SE quadrant of the graveyard (CW003-005002-). Close by, approximately circular boulder with a rectangular mortice (CW003-005005-). Boulder with conical depression (diam. 0.2m; D 0.2m) beside N wall of nave by W gable. Earthfast stone (CW003-005006-) with single bullaun basin to W of graveyard. To N of church and graveyard aerial photographs (CUCAP AYP 24, 25) show complex of earthworks (CW003-005007-), including rectangular enclosure(CW003-005008-), possibly moated site. These features are now barely discernible on the ground. (JKAS 1932, 86-88)
