The National Monuments Service's description

Described as 'Cloone House' on the 1835 and 1876 eds of the OS 6-inch map. This is the SW wall of a late 18th/early 19th-century house with large quantities of brick and no features other than a fireplace and tall window at the ground floor and a fragment of a window at the first. It is believed to have been built on the site of a castle (local information), about which there is no other knowledge. There are no visible remains of any earlier structure.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
