The National Monuments Service's description

Raised circular area (int. diam. 34m) enclosed by two very substantial earthen banks with deep and partly waterlogged outer fosses. Original entrance represented by corresponding breaks in banks with accompanying causeways at SE. An earlier report (OPW 1980) recorded a tradition of a 'tunnel off the fort' which is probably a reference to a souterrain (CV030-015002-).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
