The National Monuments Service's description
Reputedly the site of 'Bunraskeen Castle', a 16th-century structure with two flanking towers formerly positioned at the corners of the yard of 'Castle Cosby' house (Davies 1948a, 97). All that survives is the S portion of the SW tower (int. diam. c. 2.2m) built of roughly coursed limestone masonry. Late medieval stone head in modern dwelling-house nearby (CV025-063002-). A castle at Cavatt (73) is not marked on the Down Survey (1656-8) map of Kilmore parish. See this web-page accessed on 11-04/2016. http://downsurvey.tcd.ie/down-survey-maps.php#bm=Clonmoghan&c=Cavan
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
