The National Monuments Service's description
Raised circular area (int. diam. 21.7m) enclosed by two substantial earthen banks with wide, deep intermediate fosse. The stone facing on the exterior of the outer bank can probably be assigned to the modern period. A wide drainage trench has been dug through the outer bank at SW in recent years. Corresponding breaks in banks with accompanying causeway at SSW represents original entrance. The W half of the interior is occupied by the remains of a rectangular featureless stone building (int. dims. 16.6m NW-SE; 4.9m NE-SW), probably the remains of a house. Its entrance is not recognisable. Possible souterrain in the centre of the rath (CV023-005001-).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
