The National Monuments Service's description
An earlier report (NMI1938) recorded two cists containing human bones which were revealed at the edge of a cairn (CV021-075001-) during ploughing. Both were aligned NW-SE. The first (dims; 2.75m x 1m) was 'protected by three large stones, besides one huge upright at the end. There was also an inner lining of flagstones about c. 0.45m x 0.15m standing upright. At the NW of the second, (dims. 3.35m x 1.37m) there was 'a huge stone of about ten cwt weight and close to sit another of the same weight protecting the N and E sides'. Not located.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
