The National Monuments Service's description
Situated in marshy ground in Lough Atrain, c. 15m from the shoreline. Davies (1942, 19) described the site as a roughly circular mound (diam. c. 29m) of sterile puddled clay, resting on a raft of branches which comprised logs running radially, with a set of cross wise logs superimposed on the radial members. The pressure of the peat had caused the radial logs to become tilted upwards.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
