The National Monuments Service's description

Davies (1948a, 124) recorded a tradition of a castle formerly situated on the lawn of Aghabane House on the downward slope to Aghabane lake. Not visible at ground level. The precise location of this feature is not known.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
