The National Monuments Service's description

Situated at the S end of a N-S drumlin ridge with a NE-SW section of the Annalee River c. 350m to the S. This is a raised, circular and overgrown area (diam. 40m NNE-SSW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 6.3-6.5m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 3.1m), and an outer flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 8.5-9m; Wth of base 2.7-3.5m; ext. D 0.4m at NNE to 1.5m at SSW) that only survives S-W-NE. The fosse is surrounded by the bank of a farm lane S-W, which increases its apparent depth in this area. The entrance through the bank (Wth of base 1.8m) and causeway (Wth of top 5.8m; H 1.5m) were recorded at SE in 1969 (SMR file) but these features are now more amorphous.

This is a National Monument in state ownership, No. 585.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
