The National Monuments Service's description
Raised circular area (int. diam. 30.9m) enclosed by the base of a stone rampart (original Wth 4.3m) which has been largely modernised and incorporated into the field boundary. A rectangular area (int. dims. 6.35m NE-SW; 3m NW-SE) enclosed by a drystone wall adjoins the cashel wall at SW and is accompanied by an indentation in the cashel wall itself at this point. Richardson (1938, 19) suggested that the original entrance was at S 'where one of the facing stones of the jamb survives'.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
