The National Monuments Service's description
Wakeman (1879, 183-200) discovered two cists within Killycarney cairn (CV002-030001-). The first, c. 1m by 0.74m internally and was divided into two compartments, and although destroyed before it was fully recorded, Wakeman noted an urn, stone chisel and worked bone at the site. A second cist (dims. 0.55m x 0.5m; H c. 0.12m) was discovered 7.3m from the latter and on the S slope of the cairn. Two flint objects and an urn were found within it.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
