The National Monuments Service's description

On rough grazing land on N side of Low Island. Roughly circular area (7.4m NE-SW; 7m NW-SE) eroded by sea on SE side where sharp fall to rocky shore; enclosed elsewhere (SSW->E) by low earthen bank with some stones (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.4m). Interior sunken and sloping down to SE. Low bank (H c. 0.2m) extends from W side of hut NW across island (L c. 25m).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
