The National Monuments Service's description

Remains of fish palace (Went 1946) on E coast of Sherkin Island. Press beam support wall (L 20.4m; H 3.5m; wall thickness 1.37m) stands just E of Friary (CO149-019002-). On E and W elevation support wall are twenty-nine lintelled niches (H 0.18m; Wth 0.15m; D 0.2m) at 0.8m above ground level and eleven beam holes (Wth 0.3m; H 0.35m) peforating wall 1.9m above ground level.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
