The National Monuments Service's description

In 1700 Bishop Downes (Brady vol. 1, 1863, 172) described 'the walls of an old castle about the middle of the town (Crookhaven)'. This was an O Mahony castle (Healy 1988, 178). Exact location not now known; no visible surface trace.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
