The National Monuments Service's description
Remains of lakeside tower (H c. 15m) in demesne of Creagh House. Built between ornamental lake and Ilen estuary; octagonal in plan, each side measuring 1.65m internally (wall thickness 0.97m); pointed doors and windows. According to landowner, built by Beechers as a mill.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
