The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture. Noted by Went (1946, 144) 'a field locally known as the 'Palleashes',...the site of a curing station for pilchards operated by the "Spaniards" '. According to local information, foundations of houses uncovered during ploughing. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
