The National Monuments Service's description

In pasture on gentle S-facing slope with commanding view to SW of sea. Burial-ground (CO136-070001-) c. 10m to SE. Shown on OS 6-inch map (1842) as rectangular structure. Noted by Lewis (1837, vol. 1, 481) as "a solitary square tower of very rude character; it has no windows, but two entrances, one from the ground and the other at some height above it". No visible trace remains. According to local information, castle ruins levelled c. 1935.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
